Happy Movement Monday! Movement for Happiness is a wellbeing skill that encourages us to find ways to move our bodies in ways that bring us joy. Each Monday, we’re highlighting stories of autistic people and what type(s) of movement bring them joy.

Meet Asante, an 11-year-old boy from Gulfport, Mississippi, whose love for the outdoors and family-centered activities bring him happiness.

His mom, Daffney, shared that one of Asante’s favorite movement activities is fishing. Whether casting off a pier or standing by the beach, his excitement is contagious – his face lights up, he claps, and he alerts his family that a fish has hit the line. After reeling it in, he insists on taking a picture to celebrate.

When asked why movement is important for Asante, Daffney said she thinks it helps him feel included. Whether fishing with the family, helping with yard work, or playing basketball, being an active participant in family life brings Asante immense joy. His mom says it best: “He feels a sense of belonging. It’s a happy point for him.”

At Proof Positive, we celebrate stories like Asante’s through our Movement for Happiness skill, which encourages everyone, regardless of ability, to find joy through movement. Asante’s story is a powerful reminder that movement isn’t just physical—it’s about connection, inclusion, and finding joy in shared experiences.
