“Happiness is not out there for us to find it.
The reason it is not out there is because it is inside of us.”

For Your Family
Positivity Portfolios for Greater Connection
- Who doesn’t want to experience more positivity at home with their loved ones? We all do. Come together with one child, or as a full family. Select the positive emotion you all want to experience more often and start building a Positivity Portfolio targeting that emotion. Reminisce about memories, pull together photographs, find your favorite songs and gather them in one place. Pick one night per week to build and savor your portfolio together.
Scheduling for Positivity
- Each month for the next 10 months, select one positive emotion to target. Then, break out your calendars and start planning one experience that will center around experiencing that emotion. Looking to get playful — plan a game night or amusement park trip. Need some peace and serenity — consider attending a yoga class as a family. Looking for more inspiration or awe — how
about an adventure into nature for an awe walk? Whatever it is, just get intentional about experiencing more positivity together!
For Your School
Annual Events Review for Positivity
- Your school or organization likely has an annual calendar of events that repeat. Come together and do a review from the perspective of positive emotions. Which events inspire which positive emotions? You might find that awards night promotes pride, field day allows for amusement, Grandparents Day is all about love. Are there ways in which you could more intentionally celebrate the emotions of the event? Are there positive emotions that are missing? How might you pull them in to ensure a wide variety of experiences with positivity?
Positivity Portfolios in Classrooms
- Try bringing back everyone’s favorite classroom activity — show and tell! For this version, teachers will assign specific positive emotions and students will bring in photos, items or memories of that positive emotion to help build the classwide Positivity Portfolio. When you want to bring the class together with positivity, pull an item or photo and have someone share their positivity with the room. Feel the positivity resonance spread!
For Your Community
Positivity Portfolio Board
- In a central location, set up a community bulletin board that highlights each of the 10 positive emotions. Start by posting community events that inspire each emotion. Then, create space for community members to add their experiences with each emotion.
Positivity Portfolio in your Newsletter
- Add a shoutout section in your community newsletter centered on positive emotions. Briefly describe the benefits of positive emotions and then encourage people to share a moment they experienced positive emotions on your social media accounts.
